History
From matchstick factory to industrial partner
Tidamek has a long history that we are proud to share. Below, you can read about some key milestones from Tidamek’s journey.
1975
From matchsticks
The matchstick company STAB (later Swedish Match) owned Arenco Parts in the 1960s and 70s, with its two subsidiaries in Hässleholm and Tidaholm (headquarters in Stockholm).
The main production involved automotive components such as steering rods, shift forks, and drive shaft ends.
Additionally, the Tidaholm factory served as an ‘extended arm’ for the development department at Volvo in Skövde.
1980
Tidamek AB, part of SWEPART
In 1979, the CEO in Stockholm changed, leading to the decision to sell Arenco Parts.
After several negotiations, a group of employees purchased a total of six companies in southern Sweden. The group quickly rebranded as SwePart, and the Tidaholm factory was renamed Tidamek.
The first CEO of Tidamek AB was Anders Andersson.
1982
IPO of SwePart
In 1982, SwePart was listed on the stock exchange, significantly enhancing the corporate group’s reputation. In connection with this, employees were given the opportunity to subscribe to favorable convertible bonds.
1996
Hexagon takes over
In 1996, SwePart sold Tidamek to Hexagon AB, and Tidamek became part of an even larger organization.
At that time, Hexagon was divided into three areas, with Tidamek being part of the Industrial Components and Systems division.
2008
Arkivator buyes Tidamek
In 2008, the industrial group Arkivator, based in Falköping, acquired Tidamek, marking the beginning of a new era.
Arkivator was in an expansion phase, acquiring companies both in Sweden and internationally. Following the acquisition, the company was renamed Arkivator Tidaholm.
The goal of the acquisition was to enable the company to offer machining of larger components to customers.
2013
Leax Group
In 2013, Arkivator went bankrupt, and shortly thereafter, Leax Group acquired the assets of the bankrupt company. The factories in Falköping and Tidaholm became a separate entity under the name Leax Arkivator Sweden AB.
With the acquisition, Leax expanded its global footprint, alongside its factories in Germany and Hungary.
After a few years, the factories were renamed Leax Skaraborg and were managed by a joint site manager.
2020
Leax Tidaholm AB
On April 1, 2019, the Falköping and Tidaholm factories were split into two separate companies, leading to the creation of Leax Tidaholm AB.
In January 2020, Leax Group sold the Tidaholm factory to the Swedish Powertrain Group, which is jointly owned by Leax and Sibbhultsverken Group.
2024
Tidamek AB is reborn
After five years and extensive consideration regarding the company name, the management decided to bring back the classic name Tidamek AB.
Tidamek is recognized as a well-known brand with high customer recognition, and the official launch will take place on October 30, 2024.
